Investigating the effect of concentration on the rate of reaction between Magnesium and Hydrochloric acid
Method planning reportIndividual workResearchGate
RESEARCH QUESTION
How does the concentration of hydrochloric acid change the rate at which it reacts with magnesium?
Scientific background
Mg + 2HCl → MgCl₂ + H₂. Collision theory predicts that a more concentrated acid gives more frequent successful collisions with the metal surface, so hydrogen is released faster. Typical methods time how long the ribbon takes to disappear or measure the gas given off.
